The Riftbound TCG community received important updates this week, with Riot Games announcing both a special promo distribution programme and restock details for the game’s earliest sets.
Flash Promos Arrive at Local Game Stores
Flash will receive special promo treatment as an exclusive Local Game Store Play Promo. The card’s popularity has surged after recent ban list changes removed several powerful counter-strategies, making Flash more potent in competitive play.
Flash promos began distribution in late April and feature the standard card design with a distinctive promo mark on the bottom.
Riot has given participating Riftbound Play Network stores flexibility in distribution methods. Stores can award them as rewards for participating in official events like Nexus Nights and Summoner Skirmish, give them to players who mentor newcomers, offer them as participation rewards for bringing new players to the store, or include them as gifts with Riftbound product purchases. Riot specifically requested that stores “avoid selling these promos as singles, keeping them as community-building tools rather than retail products.”
Riftbound Origins and Proving Grounds Restocks Rolling Out
Riftbound Proving Grounds has already begun arriving in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with European stores expecting stock in April and US retailers following in May.
Riftbound Origins restocks follow a phased approach. The next wave of Riftbound Origins boosters will arrive following the Unleashed set launch, with a larger shipment scheduled for later in May. This staggered release should maintain steady stock levels rather than creating another boom-and-bust cycle.
Riot has committed to continued printing of these early sets until market quantities reach stable levels. In their recent State of the Game address, the company described these as part of “an ongoing commitment rather than a one-time solution.” Information about direct purchasing through the Riot Merch store will be announced soon.
These developments target the most persistent supply challenges facing Riftbound players. Flash promos provide immediate access to one of the format’s most sought-after cards, while systematic restocks of Riftbound Origins and Riftbound Proving Grounds address the foundation set shortage that has limited new player entry since launch.
