How Crustle wins
The entire strategy centres on Crustle's Mysterious Rock Inn ability, which prevents all damage done to it by your opponent's Pokémon ex. Once a Crustle is sitting in the Active Spot with Energy attached, most modern attacking threats simply cannot knock it out. Your job is to get Dwebble into play as early as possible and evolve it, using Dwebble's Ascension attack to search your deck for Crustle and put it onto Dwebble immediately, even on the first turn if you go second.
With Crustle established, the deck layers on healing to extend its life almost indefinitely. Four copies of Jumbo Ice Cream each heal 80 damage from your Active Pokémon, provided it has three or more Energy attached. Pokémon Center Lady heals 60 damage and clears Special Conditions, while Bianca's Devotion fully heals a Pokémon sitting at 30 HP or less remaining. Growing Grass Energy adds 20 HP to the Grass Pokémon it is attached to, and Hero's Cape adds a further 100 HP to whichever Pokémon holds it. Stack enough of these and Crustle becomes extraordinarily difficult to remove through non-ex attackers as well.
Mega Kangaskhan ex covers the turns when Crustle does not need to attack. Its Run Errand ability lets you draw 2 cards once per turn while it is in the Active Spot, keeping your hand stocked with the Supporters and healing Items the deck needs. When Mega Kangaskhan ex does attack, Rapid-Fire Combo starts at 200 damage for three Colorless Energy and can climb further with favourable coin flips. It is not the primary plan, but it gives the deck a genuine secondary threat.
The Trainer suite is built around finding the right card at the right time. Four Team Rocket's Petrel each search your deck for any Trainer card and add it to your hand, meaning you can fetch whichever healing Item or Supporter the situation demands. Four Lillie's Determination refill your hand to six cards, or eight if all six Prizes remain. Xerosic's Machinations and Eri disrupt the opponent's hand, buying Crustle extra time. Spiky Energy and Mist Energy provide Colorless Energy while adding passive chip damage to attackers and protecting against attack effects respectively, tightening the defensive shell still further.

Your first turns, and what to aim for
In your opening turns, the priority is getting Dwebble onto the field and using Ascension to evolve it into Crustle as quickly as possible. Buddy-Buddy Poffin searches your deck for up to two Basic Pokémon with 70 HP or less, so it can put both Dwebble and another Basic onto your Bench in one move. Hilda searches for an Evolution Pokémon and an Energy card together, helping you find Crustle if Ascension is not available. Once Crustle is Active, begin attaching Energy: you need at least three attached before Jumbo Ice Cream can heal it, so building that Energy base early is essential alongside setting up the lock.
From the midgame onwards, your turn structure is largely: activate Run Errand on Mega Kangaskhan ex if you need cards, play Team Rocket's Petrel to fetch whatever Trainer the board requires, attach Energy to Crustle, heal with Jumbo Ice Cream, and attack with Superb Scissors. Pokégear 3.0 lets you look at the top seven cards of your deck and take a Supporter from among them, smoothing out the Supporter-heavy hand you want each turn. Team Rocket's Factory rewards playing Team Rocket's Petrel by letting you draw 2 additional cards that turn, turning a single Supporter into meaningful card advantage. Keep a healing Supporter such as Pokémon Center Lady or Bianca's Devotion in reserve for emergencies, and use Boss's Orders to pull up whichever Benched Pokémon gives you the most favourable prize trade.

Crustle, answered
Quick answers about playing and building this deck.
01Is Crustle good for beginners?⌄
Crustle is not the easiest deck for a complete beginner, but it is far from the most complex. The core gameplan is straightforward: evolve Dwebble into Crustle, get three Energy attached, and start healing every turn with Jumbo Ice Cream. The challenge is managing eighteen distinct Trainer cards and knowing which one to fetch with Team Rocket's Petrel in a given situation. If you are comfortable with Stage 1 evolution decks and can read the board to choose the right Supporter each turn, you will find the deck consistent and satisfying to pilot.
02What are the key cards in Crustle?⌄
The essential cards are Crustle, whose Mysterious Rock Inn ability blocks all damage from Pokémon ex, and Dwebble, whose Ascension attack lets you evolve without waiting a full turn. Four copies of Jumbo Ice Cream provide the healing engine, requiring three or more Energy on your Active Pokémon. Four Team Rocket's Petrel give you on-demand access to any Trainer in the deck, making the list flexible despite its singleton counts. Mega Kangaskhan ex supports the strategy by drawing 2 cards per turn via Run Errand while sitting in the Active Spot, keeping your hand full of healing and search cards.
03How much does a Crustle deck cost in the UK?⌄
Every card at the cheapest printing we list comes to £74.80 at today's prices, and we can send 13 of the 60 cards today (£14.27). Prices and stock change daily, so the list above always shows the current figures.
04Is Crustle Standard legal?⌄
Yes. Every card in this list is legal in the current Standard format (TEF-30C).
