The Pokémon Company has officially announced that the upcoming Pitch Black expansion will be the English release of Japan’s Abyss Eye set, marking the highly anticipated return of Mega Darkrai ex to the Pokémon TCG. Reaveled by PokeBeach, the Japanese set releases on May 22nd as their M5 expansion, with the English Pitch Black following in the traditional summer release window.
The Return of Mega Darkrai ex
Mega Darkrai ex makes its comeback after years away from competitive play, bringing one of the most iconic Dark-type Pokémon back into the spotlight. The original Darkrai ex cards were renowned for their powerful Dark-type attacks and disruptive sleep mechanics, often focusing on energy manipulation and board control strategies.
With modern card design philosophy, this new Mega Darkrai ex features 280 HP and promises to introduce fresh strategic possibilities to the current format. The “Abyss Eye” theme perfectly captures Darkrai’s lore as the nightmare Pokémon, known for inducing sleep and traversing dreams.
